Made In Clarkdale 2014
It’s that time of year again, just after Thanksgiving and right before Christmas. Made In Clarkdale 2014 is upon us. I’m so excited to be participating in this fantastic show that includes so many artists from our community! This year there are over 50 artists showing at the Clark Memorial Clubhouse in Clarkdale, AZ. The show will run from December 5th – December 13th with the Opening Gala Event on Friday December 5th 2014 6pm-9pm.
We are again expanding Made In Clarkdale with entertainment and educational events throughout the show, with evening and weekend performances and speakers alongside our extensive gallery showing the works of our member artists and artisans.
This year, in addition to our large gallery showing the work of our MIC Member Artists we are very pleased to present an expanded list of performance arts and educational events.

SPOKEN WORD
Poetry Slam – Hosted by Christopher Fox Graham, Slam poetry is an art form that allows written page poets to share their work alongside theatrical performers, hip-hop artists and lyricists. If you think of poetry as dull and laborious, get ready, as a poetry slam is like a series of high-energy, three-minute one-person plays. Poets will be judged by five members of the audience. Poets of all ages are welcome to compete for cash prizes. This slam is the second the 2014-15 Sedona Poetry Slam season. Poets may come from across the state, competing against adult poets from Sedona and the Verde Valley, college poets from Northern Arizona University and Yavapai College, and youth poets from Sedona Red Rock High School’s Young Voices Be Heard and Mingus HS.
This is an open event – all poets wishing to enter the Slam please contact Christopher Fox Graham at foxthepoet@yahoo.com. The Poetry Slam is on Sunday Dec 7th (4PM – 6PM)
THEATER
Red Earth Theater again comes to the show with performances of “The Wild Party” (adult topics and admission fee). The Wild Party’s a full-length narrative poem by Joseph Moncure March written in 1926! It was considered shocking and was variously censored, banned and ignored before Art Speigleman (the New Yorker cartoonist) found a copy of it in the ’90s and released an edition with his illustrations. It has been made into two not very great musicals and a movie. Red Earth Theater performs the piece exactly as it was written with eight actors and a live Jazz band… being on stage at the party as it were, and providing a score as well as some very specific songs. Two performances – Thurs and Friday Dec 11th and 12th (7:30 PM – 9PM).
WINE TASTING
Yes, we even offer 3 evenings our newest “art-form” wine tasting. FourEight Wineworks will bring their well educated staff and palates to the show to offer education/tastings. Of course there will be a small fee for this service.
ART EDUCATION
As part of Made In Clarkdale’s mission statement, supporting and promoting arts education is a big element. During the show we feature daily workshops and tours by member artists for school students, often including art with clay, science in art, playing with glitter, all creative adventures as they learn to appreciate the possibilities of art. On Saturday Dec 12th, member artists offer a number of demonstrations and short discussions about their art for the public. Also Made In Clarkdale, hosts a Student Invitational Art Show in their “Corner Gallery,” Nov 7th through Dec 14th, working with the Mingus Union HS Fine Art Department and the Jerome-Clarkdale School. An educational experience to last a lifetime for participating students.
